In Poland, the greatest chance of widespread application have dry methods of flue gas desulphurisation. Compared with the wet method they are cheaper and possible to implement in existing structures. The most common dry flue gas desulphurization method consist of dry sorbent injection directly into the exhaust gases from the combustion process. Lime is the most often used sorbent agent. In terms of effectiveness the main goal of any dry method is to obtain dry final product without any residual waste.
Common characteristics of dry methods:
*Relatively low investment cost,
*Minor corrosivity of installation,
*Possibility of using different sorbents (cheap and available on the Polish market),
*Simplicity and reliability,
*Avoids the need for heating of the purified gas,
*Easy transportation and storage of waste.
The selected flue gas desulphurisation system makes it possible to achieve even higher desulphurization efficiency after combining water spray installation into the system. Such desulfurization system is called a semi-dry method. This method is one of the most widely used on a commercial scale technology to remove SO2 from flue gas.
